This Sunday 13th December, AMARILLO are playing two sets with the full band at The Drunken Poet, 65 Peel St, North Melbourne from 6.30pm. It’s our last show for the year & it’ll be a great arvo of music, with our mate and song writer par excellence Van Walker playing on the day too, he’s on at 4pm. Come on down and say g’day!
Looking forward to playing at this great night of music at the Yarra Hotel on the 13th of Nov.
This is going to be a great night filled with some great Melbourne talent – look at all their lovely heads!
See ya there.
Amarillo is the project of song writer and guitarist Nick O’Mara (Raised by Eagles, the Butcherbirds) & song writer and vocalist Jac Tonks. A mix of dark, tremolo infused ballads and jangly alt-country with a folk-pop twist. With Trent McKenzie on the bass and Alex Rogowski on the drums.
Nick O’Mara is the guitarist in Raised By Eagles; he’s on the interchange for Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission and fronts his own band. Jac Tonks has done backing vocals for O’Mara, Raised by Eagles and Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission. Jac grew up surrounded by figures of the Melbourne Irish music scene, her mother and extended family all playing in the O’Dowd band. O’Mara and Tonks started writing songs together, and Amarillo was born.
2013 saw Amarillo support Charlie Parr on his recent visit from USA and Mick Thomas for his annual run of Christmas shows in both 2013 and 2014.
Amarillo released their self titled EP in 2014. A blend of pop harmonies, soaring lap steel, dark tremolo and slack tuned finger style guitar.
“Gorgeous little EP from singer Jac Tonks and Raised By Eagles guitarist Nick O’Mara. A rare combination of personality and instrumental skill make this stand out from the plethora of girl/boy folk outfits kicking around….”
By Martin Jones, Rhythms Magazine
Amarillo are currently recording a full length LP at Yikesville studio with Shane O’Mara.
